NetworkAdvantage Corp's Satellite Management System Selected For Videophone Network.

NetworkAdvantage Corp, the satellite technology company based in New Zealand, has been selected by PSVN Inc of California to supply their Videophone Satellite Management System for use within the developing international public switched videophone network.

With videophones long restricted to corporate boardrooms, and video-calls to other countries expensive and difficult to set up, the public switched videophone network brings together an alliance of telecoms companies in Asia-Pacific with the prime aim of making it easier and cheaper for people to talk over long distances face-to-face, literally!

The alliance is planning video-payphones to be available in public places such as hotel lobbies and airport lounges, where anyone can make video-calls within or outside the network for just a few dollars.

NetworkAdvantage's software and management system is used at the core of the network to establish links over satellite between ‘Gateways’ in participating countries. The service is expected to start early this year with coverage across Asia as far as Pakistan, Australia, NZ and Hawaii, where connection is made into the US digital telecoms network.

Successful proof-of-concept demos have included Washington DC, a pilot ‘Gateway’ in Bangalore, India and most recently at PTC 05 Conference Hawaii. During the conference, demonstrations were carried out at the Hawaiian Pacific Teleport, where Video-calls were made between India, Hawaii and California.

NetworkAdvantage Corporation is at the forefront of new satellite communications development, and this is but one of several exciting new services the company's satellite bandwidth management technology is enabling. For more information check out www.networkadvantage.co.nz
